Is That Really Helping?

Is it really worth posting or saying? That political post or rant you are about to throw out for the world to see, is it really worth posting? Is it going to change someone’s mind or are you just stirring the pot? Are you acting on behalf of the problem or the solution.

I understand that politics can be a divisive issue. I also understand how everyone has the freedom to say or believe what and how they wish, however, I ask you to consider, is what you are posting an attempt to help issues we are facing or are you just doing it to dig your heels in and “get a rise” out of people.

One way or the other people will be on the opposite sides of any fence. There will be winners and losers. The effort should be, as I see it, in coming together to effect change. Regardless of your faith, in whatever it may be, we will not make change by continuing to bash. Hate speech and hurtful remarks to your Facebook friends will not effect any change that you are after. It will continue to divide and separate the world you live in.

I believe in standing firm for what you believe in. God knows that is why I do what I do. I work tirelessly for the Kingdom of God. I preach, teach, do radio podcasts, write a blog and just generally show up in people’s lives as they need it and as God directs me to. But, I must say, I do not do it in a way that is hurtful and hateful to others. I merely do as God calls me to in order to show people the difference in a life with God and one without. I attempt in every way to show people, rather than standing on a soapbox and bashing those who turn from God.

I love you all and hope that you think, just for a moment, about how you as well can effect positive change in the world. No matter how small it may seem, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”.

Be blessed,

Deacon Jason Bowden

GET INTO THE MISSION FIELD

Image
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”

Isaiah 52:7

The past couple of days, I have spent a lot of time paying attention to social media. If you are not into it, you should be. I have found that yes, as we all already know, there is a lot of negativity, hatred, and flat out disgusting things that people share to escalate either their egos or their place in society’s ladder.

But here is also what I have found. Connected to the right people, you can find inspiration. I have recently seen the postings of some very influential young Christians on Twitter and they have accepted me also.

The other positive aspect is the fact that it is your opportunity to be the hands and feet (or fingertips) of Christ in redeeming this area of our world. See what people are into and you will see how better to pray for them. For better or worse, there may be no better way then to get a barometer of where someone is at or is in need. Formulated correctly, this could be a jump start on a plan to reach them.

I have honestly been very encouraged lately to see that it doesn’t have to be as bad as some make it out to be. I certainly do not advocate spying on or bashing people with Jesus over their head, but if done with love, it can be an asset.

We as Christians must go to the mission field. It is sometimes a dark and scary place. But then again, I am reminded that Jesus hung out with sinners, just like me!

Oh and by the way, you can follow me on Twitter at @Deaconjason.
